These rare stills are vivid survivors of Weimar cinema's twilight and luminous markers in the legacy of Anna May Wong-the first Chinese American movie star, whose brilliance transcended Hollywood's margins. Schmutziges Geld marked a decisive chapter in Wong's European sojourn, as a nightclub performer and migrant caught between illusion and survival, challenging the orientalist tropes that had constrained her in American film.
