King Kong (RKO, 1933) 9.5" 7.25" Fay Wray "Ann Darrow" Advance (Continuity Layout) Original Key Set Photograph by Ernest A. Bachrach. PSA/DNA Type 1. Collection of Steve Sustayta. Vintage gelatin silver glossy borderless 9.5" x 7.25" advance continuity layout key set photograph of Fay Wray as "Ann Darrow" in King Kong by Ernest A. Bachrach, with original paper caption with (advance) key set number K-Adv-28 / K-138 on the verso caption. Advance key set number K-Adv-138 in India ink on the negative. Original to the collection of Kango Takamura, assistant and retoucher for Bachrach at RKO Pictures until 1942, when he was interned at Manzanar, returning to the studio until it closed in 1957. As Ann Darrow, Fay Wray gave one of the defining performances of the 1930s, wide-eyed vulnerability and piercing cry opposite Willis O'Brien's stop-motion Kong became the standard of beauty in peril. Wray's work in King Kong immortalized her as the archetypal "scream queen" and linked her forever to one of the most enduring creations in film history. From the Collection of Steve Sustayta.
