More Information: Preminger's adaptation of George Bernard Shaw's play is remembered both for its ambitious scale and for the director's bold decision to cast 18-year-old Jean Seberg, then an unknown from Iowa, in the title role following a highly publicized talent search. Although the film was met with mixed reviews, Seberg's performance as Joan of Arc marked the beginning of a remarkable international career that would make her one of the most iconic actresses of the 1960s. As a master key book, this album represents the studio's definitive set of production stills — one of only one or two prepared — documenting both the international cast and Preminger's dramatic staging. Robert Penn, one of Britain's foremost still photographers, captured the grandeur of the production while also producing some of the most unforgettable images of Seberg at the very outset of her career.
