Description

Four Negatives of Karloff in Bride of Frankenstein. Boris Karloff's portrayal of the Monster in Universal's 1935 sequel Bride of Frankenstein, directed by James Whale, is still astounding today -- a heartbreaking tour de force that saw the creature talking, laughing, crying and, for one startling moment, even becoming a Christ symbol. This lot includes an 8" x 10" negative close-up that magnificently showcases both the Jack P. Pierce makeup and the soulful Karloff personality that shines through it. Three small negatives feature an additional close-up, a full-length shot of the Monster, and a candid shot of Karloff relaxing in his special "Monster chair" on the set. Excellent condition. Bonus: an 8" x 10" photocopy of Dorothy Karloff, actor James Gleason and artist Rolf Armstrong, admiring the portrait that Armstrong painted of Karloff from Bride of Frankenstein. From the Boris Karloff Estate Collection. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from Sara Karloff Sparkman.
