Description

Elvis Presley "Dream Car" by George Barris Photos. One of the first things Elvis did to celebrate his newfound fame in the '50s was to buy himself two Cadillac limousines; it was the beginning of an obsession that would involve him spending millions of dollars on customized Cadillacs, including a $100,000 gold Cadillac dream machine customized by George Barris in 1960. The passenger compartment and trunk were upholstered in white pearled leather-grained vinyl and imported gold-colored crushed velvet, the floor was carpeted in white sheepskin, and elements of the interior were plated in 24-karat gold. Gold lame curtains covered the back windows and separated the front and back seats. Gadgets included dual French-made radio-telephones, anti-theft system, shoe buffer, refrigerator, wet bar, and a Kenwood entertainment system that included a gold-plated swivel-mounted color TV. This set of ten b&w 8" x 10" photos of the "Dream Car" include three exterior shots (one with Elvis posing next to it) and seven interior shots showing the decor and gadgets. The photos are in Very Fine to Excellent condition with very mild wear and curling. From the George Barris Archive.
