More Information: Cyd Charisse was MGM's quintessential dance star—statuesque, enigmatic, and physically commanding. This archive showcases her career from postwar Technicolor musicals to high-style dramatic roles, captured by leading studio portraitists Carpenter, Bull, and Apger. The inclusion of portraits from Fiesta, Meet Me in Las Vegas, Party Girl, and the ballet anthology Black Tights reflects her broad stylistic range, from romantic leads to avant-garde performance.
The transparencies, many from Sombrero and other color productions, reveal the Technicolor glamour with which Charisse became synonymous. Together, this archive serves as both a visual biography of Charisse and a testament to the MGM publicity machine at its most visually refined. A premier photographic record of one of cinema's most stylized and enduring dancers.
