Claude Rains' Scrapbook Devoted to His Farm, Stock Grange. As Jessica Rains remembers, one of the "great prides" of Claude Rains' life was Stock Grange, a 600-acre farm built in 1747 in the Brandywine countryside outside of West Chester, Pennsylvania. The actor lived there from 1938 to 1957, and as soon as he completed a film in Hollywood, he would hurry back across the country to his pastoral retreat and embrace his private life as a "gentleman farmer." This lot features 12 photo album pages with 31 pictures of Rains' beloved farm; shots of the house's interior and exterior, the barn, the outbuildings, the swimming hole, and the pigs and cattle. The pictures (still attached to scrapbook page backing) range from 8" x 10" shots that appear to have been taken professionally to family snapshots that include a charming picture of Rains in suit and tie with daughter Jennifer (Jessica Rains' given name) and her baby doll. The pages give great evidence of the serenity Claude Rains pursued and enjoyed away from the spotlight during his most legendary years as a movie star. In Very Good condition. From the Claude Rains Estate Archive.
