Claude Rains' Photo Portraits by Roddy McDowall. "It was the most volatile face...It was like Mount Rushmore," remembered the late actor/photographer Roddy McDowall, who took these amazing photographs of Claude Rains late in Rains' life. The 9" x 13.5" b&w photographs date to the mid-1960s; Rains was in his mid-'70s and McDowall was pleased that the portraits captured "his wit and melancholia and also this tremendous fierceness, like a lion, that Rains had." Indeed, the portraits have a "King Lear" quality, showing the majesty of a man who had triumphed over incredible odds to become one of the world's most respected actors. Each photo has a sticker on the verso reading "Photo: Roddy McDowall Copyright 1995 Harlequin Enter. Ltd." These superb studies almost make you feel as if Rains were in the room; he himself was so pleased that he paid a surprise visit to McDowall's New York home to request more copies. In Excellent condition. From the Claude Rains Estate Archive.
