Description

Boris Karloff The Climax and House of Frankenstein Archive. Two Universal super melodramas awaited Karloff after he completed his Arsenic and Old Lace tour in 1944. The Climax starred Boris as a sinister hypnotist, and this lot includes a still of Karloff with actress Jane Farrar, a photocopy of a candid shot of Boris with director George Waggner, and a photocopy of a two-page November 7, 1944 magazine story (title not identified) with seven shots from the film. The rowdy House of Frankenstein starred Karloff as a mad doctor who revives Lon Chaney Jr.'s Wolf Man, John Carradine's Dracula, and Glenn Strange's Monster, and the lot offers two 7" x 9" matte finish portraits of Karloff, three glossy 8" x 10" portraits (one from the 1957 Screen Gems release of Shock! Theatre, which misidentifies the still as being from The Black Cat), an 8" x 10" shot of Boris with Chaney and Strange, an 8" x 10" still of an early poster, a 3" x 5" shot of Karloff with J. Carrol Naish (as the hunchbacked Daniel); also a negative of that shot and negatives of two Karloff portraits. Bonus: a candid of Boris and Chaney Jr. at Universal from early 1944. Pictures. In Fair to Excellent condition. From the Boris Karloff Estate Collection. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from Sara Karloff Sparkman.
