    Boris Karloff Pre-Frankenstein Film Stills. "I was an actor for twenty years before Frankenstein, and nobody knew it but me!" laughed Boris Karloff. This lot of ten stills representing his Hollywood struggles include shots from His Majesty, the American (1919, village mob shot, Karloff not identifiable), The Last of the Mohicans (1920, Karloff not identifiable), Without Benefit of Clergy (1921, Karloff not identifiable), The Man from Downing Street (1922, Karloff as a maharajah), Lady Robinhood (1925, Karloff not identifiable), The Greater Glory (1926, Karloff not identifiable), Soft Cushions (1927, Karloff as a sheik), Two Sisters (1929, Karloff with actress), The Sea Bat (1930, Karloff with Gibson Gowland), and a portrait of a young Karloff from an unidentified film, with toothpick in mouth (negative included for this shot). All but Two Sisters and The Sea Bat have the Museum of Modern Art stamp on the reverse and appeared in Cynthia Lindsay's 1975 book Dear Boris. In Very Good condition.
