    Boris Karloff Columbia "Mad Doctor" Series Archive. Boris Karloff's "Mad Doctor" series for Columbia ran from 1939 to 1942 and spawned five unholy films. This lot features them all: The Man They Could Not Hang (two portraits, one still with Lorna Gray and others, one portrait negative), The Man with Nine Lives (three 8" x 10" stills, including candid of Karloff reading the comics to a little boy) with a negative and a color slide, Before I Hang (original 8" x 10" portrait with Evelyn Keyes with photographer stamp and snipe en verso, additional still with Keyes and Bruce Bennett), The Devil Commands (8" x 10" scene with Anne Revere), and The Boogie Man Will Get You (two 8" x 10" originals with Peter Lorre, photographer stamp and snipe en verso), with negative. One of the shots with Lorre has a surface scratch, otherwise Good to Very Good condition. From the Boris Karloff Estate Collection. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from Sara Karloff Sparkman.
