Boris Karloff Arsenic and Old Lace 1945 Pacific Tour Photos. Film and world history combined! Karloff aided the war effort, traveling to the South Pacific in February of 1945 to star in a USO production of Arsenic and Old Lace -- the rest of the roles acted by members of the military. This fascinating lot includes an original 8" x 10" shot of Karloff with Maurice Evans, who produced the tour (the latter in uniform) and Boris has written on the reverse in fountain ink, "Yes I know! The top button on my shirt and the zipper on my pants show and I'm grinning so hard there is all the bridgework!" Also a 6.6" x 8.5" portrait of a smiling Karloff, on which Dorothy Karloff had written in green ink, "Taken in Honolulu when he was there with Maurice Evans - during 2nd World War - for USO" Expansive lot includes an additional six photos of Karloff with the cast, signing autographs for the troops, hobnobbing with soldiers, sipping milk from a cocoanut, etc., plus six negatives. An unusual and compelling lot, especially desirable for Karloff's humorous words penned on the back of the one picture. From the Boris Karloff Estate Collection. Accompanied by a COA from PSA/DNA and a letter of provenance from Sara Karloff Sparkman.
