    Description

Boris Karloff 1940s Candid Photo Archive The 1940s were an exciting decade for Boris Karloff: Broadway stardom in Arsenic and Old Lace, a climax to his horror glory as The Body Snatcher, and status as one of Hollywood's most respected character actors. He worked hard and played hard and this lot focuses on the play: Boris with wife Dorothy at a dance at the Waldorf-Astoria, Boris posing with Elsie the Borden Cow, publicizing RKO films in Manhattan, a proof sheet of shots with his dog and cat, and a photo of Boris in drag with Ed Wynn, Vincent Price, Clifton Webb, Danny Kaye, Eddie Cantor, and as the "Floradora Sextette." Also of interest: several 8" x 10" photos of Boris and wife Evelyn (whom he wed after his divorce from Dorothy) in the audience at a 1948 Truth or Consequences show, apparently as part of the gag. Pictures range from 2" x 3" snapshots to 8" x 10" stills, condition from Fair to Excellent. Fascinating glimpse into the life of a world-famous but basically very private man. From the Boris Karloff Estate Collection. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from Sara Karloff Sparkman.
