Vintage gelatin silver glossy 8.5" x 6.5" press photograph of Amelia Earhart arriving in New York City for ticker-tape parade, June 20, 1932, after her transatlantic flight, with Brown Brothers wet stamps and later use MAR 1949 later-use stamp on the verso. On May 20-21, 1932, Earhart became the first woman and only aviator since Charles Lindbergh to fly solo nonstop across the Atlantic. Flying a red Lockheed Vega, she left Harbor Grace, Newfoundland, Canada, and landed 15 hours later near Londonderry, Northern Ireland. After receiving a bouquet of red roses from Mayor James Walker, she is seen in this photo before traveling up Broadway where thousands assembled to greet her. She later received the United States Distinguished Flying Cross and the Gold Medal from the National Geographic Society. From the Collection of Leonard Stanley.
