Description
Warren Newcombe (1894-1960) Academy Award Winning American Special Effects Artist: Seven Original Matte Drawings, Rough Pencil Sketch and Photograph For the MGM Film The Clock (1945). Includes five matte drawings on 13" x 11" artist board and two additional mattes measuring 13" x 10" - all of which appear to be concepts for the opening titles of the film. Also included is a rough pencil sketch on drawing paper and a photograph of the final illustration. Finally, a matte painting of the main characters kissing rounds out the lot. The Clock starred Judy Garland and Robert Walker and was directed by Vincente Minnelli and Fred Zinnemann.Warren Newcombe worked on more than 200 films in his career including Tarzan the Ape Man (1932) The Mask of Fu Machu (1932), Billy the Kid (1935), Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1941), Mrs. Miniver (1942), Gaslight (1944), Kismet (1944), National Velvet (1944), The Three Musketeers (1948), Little Women (1949), Annie Get Your Gun (1950), Show Boat (1951), An American in Paris (1951), Singin' in the Rain (1952), The Prisoner of Zenda (1952), Kiss Me Kate (1953), Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954), Brigadoon (1954), and Forbidden Planet (1956). He won academy awards for photographic effects for Mrs. Miniver in 1943 and Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo in 1945. All illustrations are in at least Very Good condition.
