Description

Universal Pictures Monster Wallet & Wall Plaque "Phantom of the Opera" Original Illustration Artwork (Universal, 1964). Vintage original Universal Monster Wallets and Wall Plaques offered in the 1960s by Standard Plastic Products as mail-in premiums through magazine advertisements. These Monster Wallets were folded with a snap clasp, each featuring two different classic monsters-one on each side-including Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, the Creature, The Phantom of the Opera, and the Wolfman. The wall plaques were colorful vacuformed images of the same monsters, framed with a black border and equipped with an eyelet for wall hanging. Offered here is the original artwork of the Phantom of the Opera as masterfully portrayed by Lon Chaney in 1925. Painted on illustration board measuring 7.25" x 12" with a painted area measuring 6.75" x 9". Original transparent overlay is no longer attached, and the paint has cracked and flaked significantly. Adhesive tape stains in unpainted portion of board only. Painting itself is in excellent condition. The "Phantom" text has worn off the front where the "N" and "M" are located. The wallet image is for reference only and is not included with this lot. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
