The Plainsman (Paramount, 1936), Group of (6) Concept Artworks. Vintage group of (6) concept artworks including (5) design sketches by Joe De Yong rendered in ink and watercolor on art paper measuring 14.25" x 11.25" and (1) "Indian at Window" character sketch, unsigned, rendered in charcoal and watercolor on art paper measuring 10" x 11.5". De Yong worked as a costume designer on the production (in collaboration with Dwight Franklin and Natalie Visart) and it is clear from his sketches that he also worked (uncredited) on scenic design. The six sketches, all dated July, 1936 and containing DeMille stamp on back, showcase both his research notes and close attention to period detail. Artworks feature comprehensive annotations on Indian costume accessories and a "Cheyenne Tepee Interior" page with a complete list of props that were included. Artworks exhibit production wear, toning, staining, minor tearing, and edge wear. The two "Wig Design" sketches exhibit water stains. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
