The Hunt for Red October (Paramount, 1990), Unpublished Poster Comp Artwork by Bob Peak. Bob Peak developed this dynamic poster art concept for 1990s The Hunt for Red October, the Cold War submarine spy thriller starring Sean Connery and adapted from Tom Clancy's 1984 novel. The film stands as the first on-screen appearance of the now ubiquitous Jack Ryan.

The late 1980s saw a strong turn towards photo-based movie posters, and in the end Peak's take on the film, emphasizing the deep blues and greens of the water was jettisoned in favor of a blood red and black minimalist take. In Peak's version Sean Connery is shown floating above the action, abstract shapes framing his face. The work shows the deep sea to be equally as alien as any world Peak depicted in his campaigns for the Star Trek films.

Mixed media on board, signed B. Peak in the lower left, artwork measures 39" x 29" and is framed to 49" x 39, exhibits a small area of creasing, and minor scratch at the upper left corner. Frame exhibits scuffing from display. Not examined outside of frame.
