About Artist Greg Martin:

Greg Martin was an American illustrator behind not only much of the most beloved box artwork of video games, but also hundreds and hundreds of equally wonderful VHS box illustrations. His illustrations graced the VHS releases of many of the best and most popular cartoon properties of the time, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Thundercats, Scooby Doo, The Flintstones, Batman the Animated Series, the New Adventures of Batman and Robin, Yogi Bear, the Addams Family, Bugs Bunny, and so many more. Inspired by the dynamic worlds of video games and movies, he dedicated his artistic talents to crafting stunning visuals that would capture the hearts and imaginations of countless gamers and enthusiasts.

One of Martin's most notable contributions was his involvement with the renowned video game company, Sega. He collaborated closely with Sega's marketing teams to design cover art for numerous games that would leave an indelible mark on gaming culture. His iconic renditions of Sonic the Hedgehog, Pac Man, Rocky, and the Adventure Island series helped shape the visual identity of Sega's flagship titles, captivating gamers around the world.

Apart from his accomplishments in the video game industry, Martin's artistic prowess extended to the realm of VHS cover artwork. He brought to life the excitement of movies on home video, skillfully depicting scenes from action-packed blockbusters, family adventures, and gripping science fiction tales. His VHS cover art adorned the shelves of video rental stores, enticing movie enthusiasts with glimpses of the thrilling stories that awaited them.

Martin passed away on May 21, 2013. The list of his full body of work for VHS is a work in progress, but it is already hundreds of releases deep. The work was generally uncredited but can be identified stylistically and/or by reference to the originals that existed at the time of his passing, and by the usage by Greg of certain of his VHS images in his self- promotional advertising in his freelance work.
