The Hindenburg Matte Paintings of Arrival at Lakehurst and Lakehurst Hanger (Various, 1975). Matte painting accomplished in mixed media on 57.5" x 34.5" glass in pine frame. Painted by Albert Whitlock.

Recognized with an Academy Award for their work on the film, Albert Whitlock and his matte department devised unique techniques, seventy paintings and painted elements, and photograph cut-outs to achieve shots in the film. This matte painting is the background sky, moved from left-to-right, as crews prepared the mooring mast for the Hindenburg's arrival.

On the reverse is the background sky for a view inside a hangar at Lakehurst as crews and spectators await the arrival of the Hindenburg. A right-to-left cloud split was employed to add movement to the painted sky. The top of the mooring mast was on its own plane to allow the cloud split to move the clouds behind it.

In Very Good Plus condition exhibiting expected production wear, minor scuffing, and soiling. This lot requires third party shipping from Los Angeles, CA. COA from Heritage Auctions.
