Taps Storyboard Group of 39 (20th Century Fox, c. 1981). "We have a home here. We think it's something worth defending." From the 1981 war drama Taps, here are 39 moody and tense storyboards by artist Nikita Knatz, mounted on nine sheets of 7.5" x 10" bond paper. Telling the story of young soldiers who defend their military academy from closing, Taps features very early roles portrayed by Sean Penn and Tom Cruise. Depicting the climactic scene in which tanks show up to stop the young soldiers, these incredible storyboards measure 3" x 1.5" each, with some variation. These images demonstrate an immense understanding of the importance of rising tension in a dramatic scene, and Knatz's savvy for filmmaking, narrative and characterization is on full display here. The images are copied, cut and pasted onto the sheets, and each sheet contains original production and camera notes. Additionally, an original hand-drawn map of the tanks' paths is mounted to one of the sheets. The pieces show minor handling and edge wear, and the condition overall is Very Good.
