Description
Star Trek: The Motion Picture (Paramount, 1979), Collection of USS Enterprise Blueprints with Instructions and Decals for Signage Placement. Original group of (6) blueprints from Star Trek: The Motion Picture relating to signage placement for the interior spaces of the USS Enterprise. Blueprints ranging from 42.5" x 42" to 42" x 25.25" with many containing handwritten notations and paste-ups indicating specific placement within the corridors, elevators, and rooms of the Enterprise, with 1-sheet containing handwritten label at the top reading, "Basic Suggestions for Label Placement". Also included is a folder containing (20+) signs and decals from the Enterprise, including decals for Security and Medical offices, Warning and Safety labels, elevator and deck level numbers, Spacesuit Preparation instructions, and several general Starfleet logos, many printed with a metalized sheen lending to an industrial aesthetic as seen inside the spacecraft. Decals range in size from 12" x 9" to 4" x 4". Accompanying these decals are 2-photostat keys explaining the various symbols and signage and 1-handwritten note from production of the film reading, "To: Dick Rubin - Spare airlock sign for duplicate area on Stage 18" / Rick Sternbach" along with his phone number extension and additional postscript note. Dick Rubin and Rick Sternbach played instrumental roles in bringing Star Trek: The Motion Picture to life, with Rubin as property master and Sternbach as the chief illustrator and creative designer behind many of the iconic designs used for the film. Items exhibit signs of production-use, handling, and age with majority of wear to the blueprints including creases, edgewear and tears resulting in surface loss, foxing, and folds, with signage showing scuffs, dings, and scratches. Provenance: Originally from the collection of Dick Rubin.
