Set of (2) Shirley MacLaine "Louisa May Foster" Costume Sketches by Edith Head for What a Way to Go! (TCF, 1964). Vintage original (2) costume sketches accomplished in gouache and ink on 14" x 16.5" artist's paper leaves by legendary costume designer Edith Head. This was no less than Head's 26th Academy Award nomination, losing this time to Phyllis Dalton for Doctor Zhivago. Depicting a tan evening suit with fur trimmed jacket and hat, and a variation of same with voluminous mink stole substituting for the previous jacket, worn by MacLaine at the Paris airport while meeting Robert Mitchum "Rod Anderson", and onboard his private jet having cocktails, on the flight to New York. The latter is inscribed by Head at upper right, "#16 MacLaine/ Blau(sp) press 211-213/ Int- gallery" with other production notes below, and signed by her at lower right. Former example is unsigned, without notations. Exhibiting age, production handling, bumped corners, minor edgewear and minor dampstaining to one corner. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
