Samson and Delilah (Paramount, 1949), Henry Clive Character Concept Artwork for Hedy Lamarr "Delilah". Vintage character concept painting by Henry Clive rendered in watercolor and acrylic on art paper measuring 15.75" x 19.75". Clive was a popular graphic artist and illustrator who also worked in film as an actor and production designer. In 1948 he was tasked by DeMille to paint the "ideal Delilah" on canvas. DeMille is quoted as saying his version of the siren "must have a dangerous capacity for vengeance. Warm, soft, cunning." This exotic portrait of actress Lamarr as "Delilah" features those attributes, which carried over into the film. An inscription by the artist to DeMille on the lower right reads: "To C.B./"Delilah"/Henry Clive". Artwork exhibits some torn areas at top, minor edge wear, and old tape remnants on backing from previous framing. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
