Description

Samson and Delilah (Paramount, 1949), Harold von Schmidt Commissioned Painting. Vintage artwork painted by Harold von Schmidt [American, 1913-2010] rendered in oil on canvas, measuring 34.5" x 40.5" on stretcher bars. Von Schmidt was a member of the Famous Artists School, an offshoot of the New York Society of Illustrators, whose faculty of ten renowned painters (including Norman Rockwell, Ben Stahl, Robert Fawcett, et al) were commissioned by DeMille and Paramount to submit their individual interpretations of Samson and Delilah. Von Schmidt was a prolific illustrator who found success as a magazine and book illustrator. This rather large-scale, impressive work was a rare foray into the world of film illustration for the artist. Exhibits minor storage wear and edge peeling. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
