Revenge of the Jedi (TCF, 1983) Poster Art Concept Sketch by John Alvin. It is a well known fact that Revenge of the Jedi was the original title of the third Star Wars film, but George Lucas ultimately changed it to Return of the Jedi, believing that true Jedi would not seek revenge, aligning better with their philosophy. Drew Struzan's Revenge of the Jedi poster, with a duel between Luke and Vader set against the Dark Lord's profile, remains a popular and scarce collectible. Being offered here is something much rarer: an original concept sketch by legendary poster artist John Alvin, done while the film still retained its original title. The design is radically different from Struzan's art; instead, it is somewhat reminiscent of Tim Reamer's Return of the Jedi Style A poster, albeit with one hand gripping the ignited lightsaber rather than two. The result is nothing short of spectacular, blending historical significance, rarity, and beauty into an extraordinary Star Wars collectible. Graphite and ink on vellum. Signed "A" in the lower right corner. Light creases do not detract from the overall appearance. 12" x 18", framed to 23.5" x 30". Not examined outside of frame.
