Description

Pan's Labyrinth: The Labyrinth of the Faun (Katherine Tegen Books, 2019), Original Illustration Art by Allen Williams. Pan's Labyrinth: The Labyrinth of the Faun is an illustrated novel by Guillermo del Toro and Cornelia Funke, expanding the dark fairy tale of the 2006 film. Blending myth and history, it follows Ofelia's journey in fascist Spain as she navigates a labyrinth of eerie creatures and moral trials. Funke deepens the story with additional folklore, while Allen Williams' haunting illustrations bring its gothic beauty to life. His intricate artwork enhances the novel's dreamlike, unsettling atmosphere, making it a visually rich companion to del Toro's vision. Graphite on art paper with an image area of 14" x 17.5"; glass-front framed to 21.25" x 25.25". In excellent condition. Signed by Williams in the lower edge of the image area. Includes a copy of the printed book. As a special bonus to the buyer, on pages 136-137, del Toro has drawn a caricature of himself pointing to the artwork reproduced in the book and shedding a tear, with a speech bubble that reads, "Now you own it -". Exhibits light handling. Art unexamined out of frame. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.

"I have, for decades, held to every shred of Pan's Labyrinth art I have ever had - in creating the illustrated novel with Cornelia Funke, I had to select an artist that was delicate and refined - elegant - but also dynamic. Allen and I began our fruitful collaboration on Pacific Rim, so, for me, he was a natural choice for this artwork." From the personal collection of Guillermo del Toro.
