Description

Pacific Rim (Warner Bros., 2013), Keith Thompson, Precursors Concept Illustration Original Art (ca. 2013). Precursors, the insectoid creators of the Kaiju, were sent to Earth to wipe out humanity. Revealed as the true antagonists during Dr. Newton Geiszler's neural "drift" with a Kaiju brain, they are colonizers who consume worlds and move on. As Geiszler explains, "These beings, these masters, they're colonists. They overtake worlds, they just consume them and move on to the next." Earth was a test: the dinosaurs were the first attempt, but the atmosphere wasn't ready. Now, after pollution and collapse, "we practically terraformed it for them." The Kaiju were just the first wave-"the hounds," he says. "The second wave, that is the exterminators, and they will finish the job." This graphite concept art is by Keith Thompson, known for his collaborations with Guillermo del Toro on Pacific Rim, The Strain, Pinocchio, and Frankenstein. Thompson's work blends anatomical surrealism with dark mythology, capturing the alien menace of the Precursors in haunting, meticulously rendered detail. Rendered in graphite with an image area of 10" x 13"; framed to 16.75" x 20". Signed by Thompson in the image area. Exhibits light handling. Unexamined out of frame. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions. From the personal collection of Guillermo del Toro.
