Description

Mike Mignola - Hellboy: Seed of Destruction #4 Splash Page 10 Original Art (Dark Horse, 1994). Early Mike Mignola Hellboy original art is as highly sought after as anything in the comic art world, and this is one of the finest interior splash pages we've ever offered. A pivotal moment as Liz's powers spiral out of control for the first time, erupting in a fiery explosion that engulfs the ancient demon Sadu-Hem, marking a dramatic shift in her struggle with her abilities! Mignola's dynamic art amplifies the chaos, with shadow and light intensifying the fiery climax of this transformative moment from the first Hellboy miniseries. John Byrne scripted and lettered the page with typeset paste-up lettering based on his own hand-drawn font. The page is crafted in ink over blue pencil on Bristol board with an image area of 10.5" x 15.75"; Plexiglass-front framed to 15" x 20". Exhibits light handling. Unexamined out of frame. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.

"When I started collecting Hellboy pages, I was determined to get as many 'firsts' from the earliest issues as possible. These pages are the rarest to find. And belong, impossibly, to the original series 'Plague of Frogs.' They involve both [John] Byrne and [Mike] Mignola, and this beautiful, exquisite negative-space splash page shows the three main characters, in my opinion - Liz, Hellboy and the antagonist, Rasputin - and it shows the very first time Liz (the pyrokinetic BPRD member) explodes in the comic book series." From the personal collection of Guillermo del Toro.
