    Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World Storyboards Original Art Group of 13 (20th Century Fox, c. 2003). "What is it Vincent?" "Don't know. I thought I heard a bell." "Could be a reef marker... Mr. Calamy! The lead, if you please." From the Peter Weir-directed Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, here is an exciting sequence of original storyboards depicting the suspenseful buildup to a Napoleonic War naval battle with The Acheron, the ship the heroes are tasked with combating near the Galapagos Islands. These tense storyboards by the hand of artist David Russell are excellent examples of building narrative tension. Mr. Russell not only exhibits an incredible level of drawing talent, but also of knowledge of set design, special effects, composition, lighting, storytelling, costume design, camera and dramatization. He even refers to the act of storyboarding as "directing on paper", and his work is essential in streamlining the process of shooting films. These 13 incredible drawings are rendered in graphite on 11.5" x 8.25" bond paper, and they measure approximately 10.25" x 4.5" per sheet. They contain dialogue and production notes. The sheets show minor handling and edge wear (with small folding and tearing edges), and the condition overall is Very Good. From the David Russell Collection.
