    Marion Davies/Orry-Kelly Fur and Hat Sketch and Mark Twain Sketch Includes: 1) A sketched and watercolor/pastel painted design for a hat and fur wrap. Designed by Marion Davies, who was famous for wearing Cloche Hats and helped create the style. With black matte and measures 15.5" x 20.5". In Good condition with a small crease/buckle in the upper left corner, as well as creasing and tearing; 2) A sketched and watercolor/pastel painted design of Mark Twain for the 1944 film, The Adventures of Mark Twain, starring Fredric March. Measures 11.5" x 16.25". In Very Good Minus condition with bumping on the corner, and has a red mark on the bottom.

    Marion Davies was one of the biggest musical-comedy and screen stars of the 1910s, '20s, and '30s. Among her first big successes on the New York stage was in a musical called Chin Chin in 1915, and it was in this production that she was discovered by Howard Chandler Christy, who first used her as his model for the painting "Morning." The clever, beautiful, and talented Davies was one of the most widely admired and beloved figures in Hollywood until she retired in 1937.

    Artist Orry-Kelly (born Orry George Kelly) designed costumes for 282 films. He dressed most of Hollywood's immortals including Bette Davis, Humphrey Bogart, Kathryn Hepburn, Errol Flynn, Ava Gardner, Natalie Wood, Betty Grable, Rosalind Russell and many more.
