Lucille Ball I Love Lucy Costume Sketch by Elois Jenssen (1954). Vintage original 11" x 15" costume sketch by Elois Jenssen of a design for Lucille Ball. This design was used for a dress worn several times in Seasons 3 and 4 of the classic TV sitcom. In Season 3 it can be seen in the very first scene of "The Golf Game" (broadcast May 17, 1954) when Lucy walks into the living room. In Season 4, it is worn in "Mertz and Kurtz" (broadcast October 11, 1954), "Ethel's Birthday," and "Ricky Needs an Agent" (one of the shows set in Hollywood). The sketch is in gouache and India ink on vellum, with three fabric swatches and a sample tassel attached. Jenssen has signed the sketch, and it has been OKed by Lucille Ball with her initials. It has also been OKed by two other parties and features the stamp of the Costume Designers Guild. Lucy is an iconic character, and it was Jenssen who created much of her wardrobe, with an array of dresses, gowns, and outfits based on up-to-the-minute 1950s haute couture. Lucy Ricardo was perhaps the finest dressed housewife of the '50s. Jenssen started her film career in 1947 and soon won an Academy Award for her work on Samson and Delilah (1949). Jenssen first worked with Lucy on the 1947 noir film Lured; she also created designs for Hedy Lamarr, Bette Davis, Shelley Winters, Gingers Rogers, and Marilyn Monroe. The sketch has been matted to an overall size of 15" x 20" and is in Excellent condition; it is accompanied by a b&w 8" x 10" photo of Lucy wearing the ensemble.
