Lucille Ball I Love Lucy Costume Sketch by Elois Jenssen (1954). A vintage original 11" x 15" costume sketch by Elois Jenssen for Lucille Ball. This design was used for a dress worn prominently several times in Season 3. Lucy is seen wearing this costume in the kitchen scenes of "Home Movies" (broadcast March 1, 1954) and "Bonus Bucks" (broadcast March 8, 1954), and also while on the phone with her publisher in the episode "Lucy Writes a Novel" (broadcast April 5, 1954). The sketch is in gouache and India ink on vellum, with swatches of the two fabrics used on the costume attached. Jenssen has signed the sketch, and it has been initialed by Lucille Ball. It has also been OKed by another party and features the stamp of the Costume Designers Guild. Jenssen was responsible for much of Lucy's iconic appearance with an array of classic dresses, gowns, and outfits based on up-to-the-minute 1950s haute couture. Lucy Ricardo was perhaps the finest dressed housewife of the '50s. Jenssen started her film career in 1947 and soon won an Academy Award for her work on Samson and Delilah (1949). Jenssen first worked with Lucy on the 1947 noir film Lured; she also created designs for Hedy Lamarr, Bette Davis, Shelley Winters, Gingers Rogers, and Marilyn Monroe. The drawing is in Excellent condition and has been matted to an overall size of 15" x 20".
