I Could Go on Singing (United Artists, 1963), Judy Garland "Jenny Bowman" Pair of Costume Sketches of Black Dress with Blue and Grey Coat Variations by Edith Head. Vintage original pair of I Could Go on Singing (1963) costume sketches accomplished in gouache, graphite and ink on 14" x 17" artist's paper by legendary costume designer Edith Head. Illustrations depict variations of the same black dress with different overcoats. One features a gray coat with long white gloves and black shoes. The second sketch shows a blue coat with short gray gloves and blue shoes, in typical Garland stance. Each is marked "garland" at the top with appropriate change #s, and the sketch with the blue coat has Head's signature in the bottom right corner. All outfits were created in California and shipped to England where the filming took place. Judy gained weight in the time between fittings and filming, so some outfits were altered, others were replaced. The onscreen gray outfit perfectly matches the original design including the black piping on the coat's cuffs and pockets, seen when she is on a jaunt with her son on the grounds of a church.
