Hellboy (Columbia, 2004), Wayne Barlowe - Sammael Concept Study Original Art. Sammael the Desolate One, Lord of the Shadows, Harbinger of Pestilence, and Hound of Resurrection slithers into form, a grotesque nightmare of sinew and corruption, its eldritch horror realized through Wayne Barlowe's visionary concept work for Hellboy's macabre mythology. This concept design hews closely to the finalized version of the demon Sammael, who makes multiple appearances throughout the film. As a demonic entity that continuously reproduces, Sammael becomes increasingly threatening-the more Hellboy (Ron Perlman) kills him, the more duplicates emerge, amplifying his presence and menace. Graphite on paper with an image area of 6" x 12.5". Signed and dated by Barlowe below the image area. Exhibits light handling. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
