TyRuben Ellingson's concept art for the Hell Hole Generator captures del Toro's vision of an unfolding mechanical spectacle. This side plan view presents the final design, developed through multiple studies, its industrial occult form engineered for the film's dramatic opening sequence. The massive Hell Hole Generator appears at the beginning of the film, when the mad monk Rasputin (Karel Roden) joins forces with the Nazis to summon the ancient god Ogdru Jahad by creating a mystical portal through a fusion of eldritch magic and advanced technology. Drawings rendered in pen and design marker on plain paper, gray tone added in Photoshop with an image area of 16" x 8.5". Signed and dated by Ellingson. Exhibits light handling.
