Description

Hellboy (Columbia, 2004), Mike Mignola - "Hellboy's Door" Concept Sketch Original Art. Hand-drawn by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, this three-dimensional perspective concept sketch depicts "Hellboy's Door" at the end of a fortified hallway within BPRD headquarters. The architectural design features reinforced cement walls, warning lights, security cameras, keypad panels, and a heavy-duty locking door. Rendered in graphite and pen with blue, yellow, and gray colored pencil accents, the piece includes meticulous details such as cracked cement and environmental shading. This specific hallway and door were faithfully recreated in the first Hellboy film, during the scene in which Agent John Myers (portrayed by Rupert Evans) first encounters the asset-Hellboy himself (Ron Perlman)-he will be assigned to work with at the BPRD. The sketch includes Mignola's handwritten labels "HELLBOY - BPRD HALLWAY #3" and "HELLBOY'S DOOR," and is signed and dated "7/02/02" in the lower left-hand corner in the artist's characteristic hand. Executed on 8.5" x 11" paper with an image area of approximately 8" x 6". The verso is marked in graphite with "BPRD. MM03.702" and "SCANNED 7.3.02." Exhibits light handling. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions. From the personal collection of Guillermo del Toro.
