Game of Thrones Dragons Preliminary Concept Painting by William Simpson (HBO, 2011). Dragons lay waste to the capital of Dorne in this early concept painting by Game of Thrones storyboard and concept artist, William Simpson. Mr. Simpson got his start working in comics with such characters as Batman, Judge Dredd and Indiana Jones. Offered here is original hand-painted concept art created in the development of the HBO series Game of Thrones. This wildly popular adaptation of George R. R. Martin's fantasy book series A Song of Ice and Fire premiered in 2011 and ran for 73 episodes over eight years. The painting depicting two dragons incinerating the castles and Sunspear of Dorne is rendered in acrylic and oil on 22" x 15.5" illustration board which bears the artist's initials and signature in the lower right. On the back, Mr. Williams has added handwritten notes identifying the illustration as "Dragon Concept Season 1 acrylic and oil." He also added a second signature and notes on his thought process explaining that this image is "almost pre-concept of initial thought." It's a one-of-a-kind masterpiece from the earliest stages in this groundbreaking show's development. The piece shows light handling and condition (with bumping to the edges). Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.
