Description
Frenzy Matte Paintings of Wormwood Scrubs Interior and Family Plot Police Station (Universal, 1972-1976). Matte painting accomplished in mixed media on 57.5" x 34.5" glass in pine frame. This matte painting for the Alfred Hitchcock film is a fictionalized view inside Wormwood Scrubs as Richard Blaney (Jon Finch), wrongfully convicted, deliberately injures himself by falling down the stairs. The subsequent injury sent him to the prison ward where he escapes.On the reverse of the glass is a matte painting used in the later Hitchcock film Family Plot (1976), featuring the view of a police station in San Francisco visited by Fran (Karen Black) to retrieve a large diamond before flying off in a helicopter to rendezvous with Arthur Adamson (William Devane). The matte painting was on screen for nearly 20 seconds, which is an unusual amount of time for an original negative matte painting to appear.
