Description
Frank Sinatra Original 1987 Acrylic Painting. Frank Sinatra enjoyed painting as a relaxing alternative to his original artistic passion-singing-the perfectionism of which sometimes taxed him to his limits. In her introduction to the 1991 book A Man and His Art: Frank Sinatra, his daughter Tina writes: "For the past ten years or so my father has painted in a geometric abstract style, which has been very satisfying for him. He is a fastidious person, a detail man, so he relishes the precision required to paint severe forms." This large abstract painting features a grid of geometric shapes of various bold colors (including Sinatra's favorite, orange). This rare 40" x 46" painting, framed in 1.75" gold-colored aluminum, is signed "Sinatra 87" at lower right, and includes the inscription "Willy Rizzo/Happy Birthday/Feb 9-88" written by Sinatra in black felt tip on the reverse. This painting was a personal birthday gift from Sinatra to Jilly Rizzo's son, William, on February 9, 1988. Sinatra often created paintings for family members and close friends, and this work has been in the sole possession of Willy Rizzo since he received it more than 20 years ago. From the Jilly Rizzo Estate Archive. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from William Rizzo.
