Description

Custom Bleak House Bookplate Signed by Artist Thomas Hijo. This striking bookplate was personally commissioned by Guillermo del Toro and designed by Spanish illustrator Thomas Hijo, known for his woodcut-style prints and for creating the custom tarot cards featured in Nightmare Alley (2021). Rendered in a Mexican Día de los Muertos-inspired style, the image features a skeletal scribe seated in a gothic, throne-like wooden chair, writing on a numbered scroll by candlelight. The skeletal figure holds an hourglass in one hand while continuing his work on a scroll bearing the numbers "533" and "335." A smaller scroll at his feet reads "BLEAK HOUSE," referencing del Toro's famed personal collection and home archive of fantastical and horror-related material. The entire scene is framed with elements of memento mori-candle, timepiece, and bones-underscoring the themes of mortality and legacy. Printed on 4.25" x 6" cardstock, this bookplate is hand-signed by Thomas Hijo in graphite beneath the illustration, just below the "BLEAK HOUSE" scroll. A collectible fusion of del Toro's personal mythology and Hijo's darkly whimsical aesthetic. Exhibits light handling. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions. From the personal collection of Guillermo del Toro.
