Description

Boris Karloff's Stage Sketch for The Linden Tree. This beautiful painting, 6" x 16" in a 9" x 19" mat, was the set design for The Linden Tree, a play that starred Boris Karloff, was written by J. B. Priestley and opened on Broadway March 2, 1948. Priestley had originally rejected Karloff for the role of an aging academic professor. "Put his name on the marquee and people will think my play is about an axe murderer!" the playwright protested. Karloff cabled Priestley, "I promise you I would not have eaten the baby in the last act," and the author was so amused that he gave his blessing to Karloff's casting. Alas, despite outstanding reviews for Karloff, the play lasted only seven performances. Its failure was one of the deep professional regrets of Karloff's life, and he kept this painting of the set by scenic designer Peter Wolf and displayed it in his home. The reverse still has the mounting clasps. In Very Good condition. How telling that a visitor to Karloff's home would find no evidence of Frankenstein or one of his horror film sensations, but would see this memento of one of the actor's "noble failures." A truly classy curio for Karloff collectors. From the Boris Karloff Estate Collection. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from Sara Karloff Sparkman.

The movie quite literally changed my life. I have included a pic of me in Sly's Rocky 3 Cashmere overcoat, would much appreciate if it is possible for you to forward this email to Sly to let him know the overcoat is in good hands, and will be well taken care of, (as will be the Rambo knife forging tools, the other lot I won!) Wish you very happy holidays and a great 2016!
