Blade II (New Line, 2002), Mike Mignola - Concept Sketch of Damaskinos, Original Art. Hand-drawn by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, this concept sketch presents an early design for the character Eli Damaskinos (Thomas Kretschmann). A vampiric overlord-cold, calculating, and heavily modified-Damaskinos is envisioned here with an open chest plate, corseted waist, lace-trimmed leather gloves, and a long, skirt-like robe. A spine motif runs prominently down the back-a recurring visual element in Guillermo del Toro's work, first introduced in The Devil's Backbone and reappearing in Pacific Rim and other films in his visual universe. Executed in pencil and ink with black marker accents and gray colored pencil shading, the sketch exemplifies the visual synergy between Mignola's stark style and del Toro's gothic-biomechanical design language. The image area measures 10" x 9.5", drawn on artist's paper folded at the top and signed by the artist at the lower right. Exhibits light handling, with small pieces of scotch tape on the top corners and along the left and right edges. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
