Description

Batman & Robin Matte Concept Painting of Gilgamesh Lab (Warner Bros, 1997). Concept painting accomplished in mixed media on 77" x 42.5". Masonite in pine frame. Painted by Syd Dutton.

This detailed concept painting is the basis for a matte used in a long dolly shot that revealed the Gilgamesh lab and Poison Ivy's (Uma Thurman) tent as part of a traditional multi-plane composite of two matte paintings and three planes of miniature trees and jungle foliage. The background painting and the foreground miniature were on separate motion-controlled movers so that the moving sky and distant mountains could be kept at infinity, while the camera dollied in on the fixed elements. On one of the model trees was a stop-motion lizard, animated frame-by-frame in the classic manner. Additional motion-control passes for torch flames, drifting mist, lightning bolts, and effects overlays were composited in-camera.

In Very Good Plus condition exhibiting expected production wear, minor scuffing, possibly bumped corners and soiling. This lot requires third party shipping from Los Angeles, CA. COA from Heritage Auctions.
