Description

A Watercolor by Dan Sayre Groesbeck from "Gone with the Wind." Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, 1939. Rendered on an illustration board, mostly in muted shades of black, brown, gray, tan, and blue, depicting Scarlett O'Hara wearing a bright pink dress as she stands among the wounded soldiers (searching for Dr. Meade as Melanie goes into labor), signed in the upper right corner "Dan Sayre Groesbeck;" created by the celebrated California artist for many purposes related to the film including use in the original premiere program, use in the artwork for the original 40x60 film poster, and use at the December 15, 1939 premiere where it was on display in the Loew's Grand Theatre lobby in downtown Atlanta; included with its original, vintage wood frame though its original mat board and glass are now non-existent. (Please note the margins around the painting have residue where the piece was once matted and framed but the artwork is not affected at all.)
    29 1/2" x 36"; Image Only: 22" x 30"

    PROVENANCE:
The current owner received this painting sometime in the 1950s as a gift from her neighbor in Ogunquit, Maine, William R. Ferguson, who was the head publicist at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and who was heavily involved with the "Gone with the Wind" production.
