    Description

A Mae West Plaster Statuette by Jay Kay, Circa 1940s. Depicting the star in her classic 'come hither' pose, entirely handpainted, face an excellent likeness of the star, black feather headdress, gown of yellow satin adorned with gold sequins, rhinestone earrings, necklace, shoe buckles, and bracelet (though most stones now missing from bracelet), rounded base reads "Portrait of / Mae West / Jay Kay / N.Y.;" included is: 1) a group of six letters, all sent to West, still with their original transmittal envelopes, all dated in 1940 or 1941, from "Jack" of Jay Kay [a "Complete Art Service" company in NYC] who evidently had a friendship with the star; 2) a 1945 cancelled check to Jay Kay that West signed for, in part, "lettering on trunks;" and 3) two color snapshots showing this statuette in situ in West's famous Ravenswood apartment on Rossmore Avenue in Los Angeles; included with a signed 'Letter of Provenance' from John West, Mae's nephew.
    Statuette: 27"
