DescriptionA James Dean Original Drawing / Mock Up Copy by John Van Hamersveld for the Cover of 'Rolling Stone' Magazine, 1974. Part photostat and part rendered in pencil and color pencil on two separate sheets of paper taped together (which were then taped onto another larger piece of paper), depicting the actor's beautiful face as a car key is held in front of him, numerous penciled annotations around the margins including "Rolling Stone Mag, April 74;" final version of the work ended up being used on the June 20, 1974 cover. According to the consignor, the artwork came from personal collection of record executive Michael Klenfner.

John Van Hamersveld, a multi-talented graphic artist, is best known for designing now-iconic rock album covers including the Beatles' "Magical Mystery Tour" and the Rolling Stones' "Exile on Main Street" among countless others; he also created the famous Day-Glo poster for the 1966 cult film, "The Endless Summer" which continues to be hung in college dorms 48 years later!
