A Group of Original Pre-Production Set Paintings Related to "Lost Horizon." Columbia, 1937. Four total, all rendered in gouache and (some) pencil on illustration board; the first depicting a female villager wearing a striped skirt; the second depicting a male sitting in a red chair with a book on a stand in the background (work is heavily shellacked); the third depicting a male dressed in an elaborate blue robe, signed in pencil in the lower right corner "J. Hayse / Goodwin;" and the fourth depicting a beautiful desert landscape, signed in pencil in the lower right corner "J. Hayse Goodwin / '37;" all created by Joseph Hayse Goodwin, a Hollywood sketch artist who may have had some connection to this Oscar-winning film directed by Frank Capra that starred Ronald Colman, Jane Wyatt, and Edward Everett Horton -- or he may have just been inspired by it; from The Estate of Joseph Hayse Goodwin as consigned by his family.
