Description

1985 Group Lot of 5 Bally Midway Cybernaut Pinball Machine Original Playfield & Plastic Artwork by Doug Watson. This group lot presents five large-format original artworks created for Bally Midway's Cybernaut pinball machine, showcasing the development process of both the plastics and the backglass. The lot includes a striking plastics composition on paper in mixed media measuring 26.5 x 21.25 inches, featuring bold colors, futuristic motifs, and a prominently rendered female cyborg character. Complementing this is a plastics rendering on vellum in pencil at 27 x 21 inches, capturing the same elements in early draft form. Three impressive backglass designs on vellum complete the set: one at 29 x 27 inches in pencil with red ink highlights, depicting the "Cybernaut" title above a pair of heavily stylized, futuristic figures, with some edge wear that does not impact the art; another at 27.75 x 26.75 inches in pencil showing the layout and composition with typical handling wear; and a final sheet at 31.75 x 27 inches in pencil with purple registration marks. Together, these pieces not only display vivid artistry and detailed craftsmanship but also offer a rare window into the creative process behind a fascinating pinball title.
