Description

1978 Group Lot of 5 Bally Playboy Pinball Machine Original Backglass & Playfield Concept Artwork by Gahan Wilson. The inaugural Playboy pinball machine, inspired by the renowned adult magazine, made its debut in 1978, adorning arcades and game rooms. Hugh Hefner, an avowed pinball enthusiast, had a hand in its creation, as did legendary cartoonist and horror artist Gahan Wilson. This lot encompasses original concept art by Wilson for the machine's backglass (drawn on a 16.5" x 15" Crescent illustration board, boasting an image area of 14" x 12.75"), as well as a sizable mixed media playfield piece (measuring 42" x 22.25") rendered on onion paper, accompanied by three small transparencies. Despite some typical wear—folds, creases, and edge damage—on the playfield art, the backglass piece and transparencies are in excellent condition.

Heritage Auctions provides as much information as possible but strongly encourages in-person inspection.
